St. Peter’s Basilica, Dome & Vatican Grottoes: Early Entry + Guided Tour

The tour begins in Piazza della Città Leonina, where your guide will explain the Vatican’s rich history. You’ll climb the 320 steps to the Dome's summit, offering spectacular views of Rome, the Colosseum, and the Pantheon. The tour continues with a visit to the Vatican Grottoes, where you can see chapels and the tombs of influential figures in history.

Yes, the Dome climb is part of the tour, but note that the elevator only takes you to the first balcony. To reach the top, you'll need to climb 320 steps, which takes approximately 20 extra minutes. It’s a rewarding climb with stunning views of Rome from the top!

The Dome might not be accessible during bad weather conditions due to safety precautions, so please check the forecast before booking.

The meeting point is at Piazza Della Città Leonina 00193, near the arches where the square meets via di Porta Angelica. Look for the staff holding a ‘Loving Rome’ flag stationed at the black tables of Caffè Leonina (front row), beyond the white tables of the kiosk. Arrive 15 minutes before the tour begins.

Please ensure that your knees and shoulders are covered, as this is required for entry into St. Peter’s Basilica. Also, remember to bring a passport or ID card for identification during security checks.

Unfortunately, this tour is not suitable for wheelchair users or those with mobility difficulties, heart conditions, vertigo, or claustrophobia due to the Dome climb and the extensive walking involved.

All guests must go through an airport-style security check. During high season, wait times may be up to 2 hours. Please arrive early and be prepared for potential delays.

While Skip-the-Line is included for the Dome, it is not available for St. Peter's Basilica. You may have to wait in line for up to 25 minutes during peak times, as entry to the Basilica is free.

Remember to bring your passport or ID card, as it may be required for identification. Also, dress appropriately for the visit to St. Peter's Basilica, covering your knees and shoulders.

Unfortunately, late arrivals will not be accommodated and there will be no refund for missed tours. Please make sure to arrive at the meeting point at least 15 minutes early.
